GORILLAZ FONT DESIGN
The assignment was to design a typeface inspired by the work of a chosen musician/author/artist, and to also apply the finished typeface to a chosen media. For my project, I chose to design a typeface based off the band Gorillaz. They were one of the first few bands that I listened to as a young teenager because in their music videos, or even when the Gorillaz performed live, they rarely came out as their human form, but as animated characters that they utilized to portray themselves. There were four characters with different shapes and sizes whose facial structure looked like that of a Gorilla, and with the lower part of their body being elongated. I decided to try and replicate these qualities in these cartoon characters to form my typeface and decided to highlight the height and add different angles to the ascender and descender to show diversity.
